Individual Rights

An important precursor to NMSC’s Abuse Prevention course, this course teaches and informs about the rights of individuals in services, including:

  • Knowing, understanding and supporting the rights of individuals
  • Promoting person-centered thinking and advocacy regarding these rights
  • Understanding the principles of a professional relationship
  • Recognizing the intricacies of the position of trust
  • When and how to employ the principle of dignity of risk
  • Supporting change when choices or behaviors jeopardize health, safety and/or access to the community
  • Most effective when taken with NMSC’s “Abuse Prevention” course
