Matt Vanauken

Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer

Matt brings more than 20 years of multi-unit and executive leadership and management experience to Developmental Pathways. He has a bachelor’s degree of Business Administration and Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management from Western Governors’ University. Matt currently is a Governor-appointed member and 2019 President of the Colorado State Board of Health, and he is a senate-appointed member of the Healthcare Policy and Financing’s Medicaid Provider Rates and Review Advisory Committee. Matt also serves as the President of the Colorado Coalition of Developmental Disabilities and is on the Executive Committee for the Alliance Association. Matt is a former chairperson for the El Paso County Human Services Advisory Committee, and former board member for the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Matt is also an active participant in the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR). Previously, he worked as the Director for Children, Youth and Families for Jefferson County Human Services, Vice President of Operations for Hard Rock Café, and Vice President of Operations for Olive Garden. Matt lives in Colorado Springs with his amazing wife and two beautiful children.

Erica Kitzman

Vice President of People Strategies

Erica joined the NMSC team in February 2014 and has responsibility for leading the human resources, learning and development, communications and project management teams. Prior, she worked in Human Resources at Qdoba Restaurant Corporation for 11 years, serving as an HR Director for the last seven years. She began her career in Human Resources with Wild Oats Markets, where she served as an HR Coordinator, Regional HR Manager and National Recruiting Manager for six years. Erica holds a B.A. in Psychology from CU-Denver and has expertise in partnering with teams on needs analysis, set-up, and execution of integrated human resources and training strategies and functions that help organizations attract, select, engage and retain the best talent.

Karen Flores

Vice President of Finance, Accounting and Billing

Karen graduated from Metropolitan State University, Denver and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Karen joined NMSC in February 2011 as the Finance Director and has since been promoted to Vice President. She provides leadership direction and support in the areas of Finance and Business Services for NMSC. She has over 20 years of experience in various industries including healthcare, telecommunications and asset portfolio management including the most recent 11 years in the nonprofit arena. Karen currently serves on the Finance Committee for Developmental Pathways and affiliated organizations. She also serves on the Finance Committee for Community Housing Development Association (CHDA).
